FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

McKean County ARC Helps Lion's Club Race

May 13, 2002 --

Our club has been asked to provide communications for the Port Allegany Lion’s Club Mountain Bike Race on Sunday, May 19th.

We will need around 8 ham operators with radios. People with hand-held radios and those with mobile radios will be needed to be able to adequately cover the course.

We are to meet at 11 am at the Canoe Place Inn in Port Allegany. Those people needing a ride over to Port Allegany, please let me know, and we’ll arrange for transportation to and from.

Our services have been important in the past with several incidents of riders having fallen off of their bikes. In one incident we were needed to summon and direct an ambulance in for a rider who fell and broke her wrist on a wet log across the course.

The Lion’s Club provides us with a t-shirt and with lunch for the afternoon.

This is a fun event for us to participate in as well as a great way to get practice for emergency communications!

Come check out the infamous Thrun’s Highway!
